Colors Lost
When I was a little girl
Colors were just a whirl
Of fall leaves ready to unfurl
There were only four that I knew
Red, Yellow, Green and Blue
Like a big play parachute
But leaves turn brown
And fall to the ground
Bright colors are never found
When we get older
The colors never get any bolder
It’s a burden
We all have to shoulder
Colors Found
Before bed father told me stories as a child
Of fair maids and beasts that were wild
I saw the world in black and white
I saw an enemy, in everything, to fight
As I filled in my very own coloring page
And as I went up in both experience and age
I learned
we’re all a kaleidoscope of color and shade
I found out
We’re all painted in a palette of grey
Changing Colors
We try to stop this rite of passage
We try to fight the passage of time
This end of an era is what we challenge
As we come to the end of our prime
In childhood colors are bright
But the world is seen only in black and white
When we grow old the colors start to fade
And the world turns to grey
This is a futile battle to fight
This is the price for wisdom we pay
