You are what you eat," that's what they always told me. Never "be the best you can be" or "Beauty is more than what you see," but always "you are what you eat." The problem is I eat a lot of things so how can my essence be defined as, let's say, a chicken wing? I think the message is wrong. If the phrase was "you are what you produce," then the message could indicate a wide variety of its meaning. For example the phrase could mean that you are the choices you make or that you are your successes and failures, but in my opinion both of these are true. Fruits are like choices, some are sweet like our good choices...some are poisonous like our bad choices...and some are sour, a mixture of the two. Everyday we take a bite of different "fruits,"and these help define who we are, what we stand for, or who we want to be. The fruits we produce make an impact not just on ourselves, but others. Whether this impact is positive or negative is up to us. We all bite into the poisonous fruit sometimes and make bad choices, but whether that choice defines us or refines us is up to us. We don't have to be defined by our past mistakes, fears, insecurities or struggles. Instead we can be defined by the fruits we pick now and what we produce can be sweet, if only we let go of the forbidden fruit. Once we decide to no longer consume the poisonous fruit, then we can grow. It's not a walk in the park, but it's a fresh start. The question is...what will you produce?
